Product Description
Diflubenzuron 20% SC is a suspension concentrate insecticide containing 200 g/L diflubenzuron active ingredient.
It belongs to the benzoylurea insecticide group and acts as an insect growth regulator (IGR) by interfering with chitin formation during insect development.
Unlike conventional neurotoxic insecticides that quickly affect insect nervous systems, Diflubenzuron works mainly by disrupting the formation of insect cuticle. After treated larvae absorb or ingest the active ingredient, they cannot complete normal molting and development, resulting in population reduction.
Diflubenzuron has contact and stomach activity and is particularly effective against insect larvae during early growth stages.
Insects require chitin to build their exoskeleton during growth and molting.
Diflubenzuron interferes with:
Chitin formation → Cuticle development → Successful molting
After application:
- Larvae ingest or contact the active ingredient;
- Normal chitin formation is disrupted;
- Newly formed cuticle becomes abnormal;
- Larvae fail during molting;
- Pest population gradually declines.
Because of this unique biological mechanism, Diflubenzuron is commonly used as part of integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
Diflubenzuron 20% SC provides effective control of many important insect larvae.
- Armyworms
- Cutworms
- Cabbage worms
- Diamondback moth larvae
- Fruit moth larvae
- Leaf-eating caterpillars
- Leaf miners
- Defoliating larvae
- Forest and plantation caterpillars
Depending on local registration:
- Some beetle larvae
- Fly larvae
- Other immature insect stages
Note: Diflubenzuron is most effective against immature insect stages. Adult insects are generally less sensitive because their cuticle development is complete.
Diflubenzuron formulations are widely used in crops where larval insect pests cause economic damage.
Suitable registered applications may include:
- Cabbage
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Leafy vegetables
Target:
- Caterpillars
- Leaf-feeding larvae
Used in registered programs for:
- Citrus
- Apple
- Pear
- Other fruit crops
Target:
- Fruit-feeding larvae
- Leaf damaging insects
Depending on local registration:
- Cotton
- Soybean
- Corn
- Forestry crops
Used for:
- Defoliating insect management
- Caterpillar population suppression
⚠️ Important Rule:
All applications must follow local pesticide registration labels, approved crops, dosage rates, and pre-harvest interval requirements.
The best control effect is achieved when applied:
✔ Early larval stage
✔ Before severe crop damage occurs
✔ During active pest population development
Young larvae are more sensitive because they require frequent molting.
Recommended conditions:
✔ Active pest occurrence
✔ Good crop growth condition
✔ Uniform leaf coverage
Avoid spraying:
- During heavy rainfall
- Under severe drought stress
- During extreme temperature conditions
Although Diflubenzuron has a unique mode of action, repeated use of the same insecticide group may increase resistance selection pressure.
Recommended practices:
- Rotate insecticides with different IRAC modes of action;
- Avoid repeated applications of Diflubenzuron alone;
- Combine chemical control with biological and agricultural management methods;
- Monitor pest population changes regularly.
Diflubenzuron generally shows good crop compatibility when applied according to registered recommendations.
However:
- Different crops have different tolerance levels;
- Always confirm local registration before commercial use.
When handled according to:
- Product label instructions;
- PPE requirements;
- SDS recommendations;
Diflubenzuron products can be safely used in agricultural operations.
Avoid direct contact with concentrated formulations.
Responsible application is required:
- Avoid contamination of surface water;
- Do not spray directly into aquatic environments;
- Follow local environmental regulations.
