Agricultural Herbicide Performance Under Heat: Cotton Weed Control in Egypt's Irrigated Fields
April 26, 2026
Egyptian cotton grows under conditions that test herbicide performance to its limit. Daytime temperatures regularly exceed 40°C during the growing season, irrigation water comes from a fixed schedule tied to the Nile canal system, and weed flushes follow every irrigation cycle. Broadleaf weeds like Datura stramonium and grass species including Cynodon dactylon emerge in the same fields, demanding a product that handles both groups under thermal stress.
An agricultural herbicide combining Trifloxysulfuron 10 g/L and Haloxyfop-P-Methyl 100 g/L in OD formulation targets this dual spectrum. Registered under PD20130366 and PD20210910, it is approved for post-emergence application in cotton, sugarcane, and soybean.
Efficacy When Temperatures Climb
Haloxyfop-P-Methyl retains weed control activity under high-temperature and drought conditions — not a minor point in Egyptian agriculture, where heat waves coincide with peak weed germination periods. The compound translocates throughout grass weeds after foliar absorption, suppressing meristematic tissue from seedling stage through early heading. Even when soil moisture fluctuates between irrigation cycles, the product continues working.
Trifloxysulfuron handles broadleaf species through ALS inhibition. Cotton's rapid metabolic degradation of the active ingredient into non-toxic compounds provides crop selectivity. The plant breaks down the herbicide before it can cause damage, while susceptible weeds cannot metabolize it fast enough to survive.
OD Stability in Hot Storage
Oil Dispersion formulations resist physical separation at elevated temperatures — relevant in Egypt where field-side storage often means a metal shed in direct sun. The suspension stays uniform, which means the last liter out of the drum has the same active ingredient concentration as the first.
